Question regarding the health care debate- Is it impossible to make people care about other people in society?

This Question From Health Affiliate Programs | 9 Answers

QUESTION:

The health care debate is a really good example of this. The reason why people are arguing over this is because they don’t want to pay for the health care of other citizens in society. They don’t want their taxes to go towards the health care of other people they don’t know. But other people say society cannot function unless there is a universal health care program that covers everyone. If the upper class donated a good portion of their profits to society, then there would be more than enough funds to go around for everyone in society. The wealth would be spread around freely. People would not have to worry about health care. But the problem is that many of them are not charitable (see my graph below). So then the government has to force them to pay up (taxes) and this angers many of them. But how can you make these people give a crap about other people? Is life just all about looking out for number one?

It is just as impossible as getting people who don’t want to help themselves inr oder to better their own situtation to actually help themselves.

The upper class, especially conservative members of the upper class, already donate huge amounts of time and money to churches, charities and other private causes.

As well, at some point, people need to take responsibility for themselves, and that includes their health, and stop hoping a parental government will look after them.

By the way, McClatchy had to issue an apology in its newspapers today for committing libel against the filmmaker who exposed ACORN by essentially calling him a racist. So I wouldn’t rely on that group too much for unbiased information.

how much more can you take from people without asking those that get the “free” health care to step up and give time if not money? why not eliminate all wages and pay everyone, no matter how hard they work, the same money. and was it not obama who said people need to step up. you want that kind of system, go to a country that has that, it is not us. and why are there any rich dems if they care so much about helping people. barney frank is a l;ofer in the congress yet somehow he is a millionaire. wtf

I am against the health care reform and it has nothing to do with not caring for others. It is simply I am from Canada and my grandmother is from england. there are very few countries where this will properly work. First you cannot be overpopulated, which we are. over 60% of our population is obese, which leads to many problems. They want to do preventive care but you can’t pull bad food for you off the shelve to help with the preventive care, you cannot make the fatties exercise. I personally know many people who have died waiting for treatments for cancer because the health care sucks, and the government then can pick and choose who they care for first, there will be such a high rise in law suits against the government when this health care starts up. Our society would function much better health wise if everyone would get off their lazy bottoms and do something, and NOT stuff their face all day. It’s harsh but true and all the fat people do not see themselves that way. I believe they need to work on the health care costs not just give it to everyone. The costs in a few years will go up to were it is now even with universal healthcare. You people need to research it more, ask people who have had it, call your congressman, get your voice herd. No all about it before you start flapping your gums about things that are not true. I wish universal health care would work but it will not in the end.

Also..You cannot care for some else if they don’t want to better themselves(health). There is always a catch 22. When the law suits starts, who you think is going to pay those millions of dollars…the tax payers of course. not the welfare bums.

Your statement “The reason why people are arguing over this is because they don’t want to pay for the health care of other citizens in society.” is a gross oversimplification. Much of the opposition to the current proposals for health care reform comes from suspicion of government and belief that the government is a very inefficient way to provide services.

There was a survey in the news this morning that said the Americans on average believe the government wastes 50 cents of every tax dollar it collects. Whether or not this is true, many people believe it. It’s not that they don’t want to help people that need help, it’s that they think the government really sucks at doing it.

Obama says he can pay for reform by eliminating the waste in existing government programs. Fine – do it, then many more people will be willing to back universal health insurance. Intead, he “promises” to make other spending cuts if the ones he proposes now don’t materialize. However, we won’t know that until he is out of office. So, what good is his “promise”?

Just ask any conservative republican who opposes national health care. The preamble to the U.S. declaration of independence states LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Apparently they don’t give a damn about the LIFE part but love the pursuit of happiness part and care about only their liberty.

A person who is forced, at the point of a gun, to pay for the care of another is not free.

This is a good argument, though I’ve heard it before. It’s true too … other countries who have universal health care for the most part don’t grumble about it or their increased taxes from it … they feel it’s their responsibility to take care of each other.

The real question is why people can support being giving and using money from out taxes to help people get insurance in this country but people can not support freeing another country from a murderous dictator. In my opinion if you didn’t not support Iraqi freedom than you are a hypocrite for supporting national health care. Also, its not about paying for others health care its about the government controlling it. Get your facts straight then ask a question.
